This focuses on lifestyle, mental well-being and spiritual
awareness, thus treating the patient as a whole being. Holistic health programs
and natural health programs focus on healing the body through natural means.
With herbalist training you learn the art and science of massage therapy,
reflexology, energy healing, bodywork, oriental medicine, acupuncture, and
acupressure. Some schools offer a Bachelor of Science in Alternative Medicine
program while others are offered at the master degree level. In natural
programs, you learn about combining natural health practices with nutrition and
fitness.
Holistic health is a philosophy of medical care that sees the
physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of life being
interconnected. Natural or complementary health is usually associated with
alternative medicine, but is increasingly being used in mainstream medical practice
as part of a broad view of patient care.
Holistic
health education and holistic health training, as well as alternative health
education and training are part of natural health training. Natural health
degrees, holistic health programs, and naturopathic degree programs may combine
massage therapy, nutritional counseling, herbology, reflexology, acupressure,
yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine, polarity, and breathwork when working with
a client or patient.
Online
holistic heath degree programs and online natural health training focuses on
healing the body through natural means and process. These alternative health
approaches, including the naturopathy degree, also include energy healing,
bodywork, oriental medicine, acupuncture, and acupressure. Some natural health
practitioners also combine natural healing with conventional medical approaches
which include nutrition and exercise. Specific holistic health courses might
include the following:
- Acupressure
- Spirituality in Healing
- Aromatherapy
- Massage Techniques
- Therapeutic Touch
- Herbalism
- Reflexology
- Nutrition
- Stress Management
- Yoga
Other areas of focus in holistic health degree programs may include meditation, herbology, Chinese medicine, yoga and massage therapy, physical therapy, and naturopathy. Some professionals with a holistic health degree choose to emphasize the bodywork aspect of the profession while others choose to act more as counselors or teachers.
